Drug Disposal Program

At Majoria Drugs, we strive to be both a socially responsible member of our community as well as experts in the safe and proper handling of medications, from dispensing to disposal. In this spirit, we (Westbank locations only) are pleased to announce our new free Waste-to-Energy disposal service for your household pharmaceutical products that are either expired or no longer needed.

Why is this important? Through proper disposal of unused or expired pharmaceutical products, we protect our environment and water supply from contamination, help prevent accidental ingestion by ourselves, our children, and pets, as well as help reduce prescription medication misuse/abuse by someone other than for whom the medication was prescribed. And by converting this pharmaceutical waste to usable energy, this is the perfect 'Green' solution to your medication disposal needs.

"Take Back" Service

To take advantage of this free "Take Back" service, simply follow the instructions below and visit either Westbank location of Majoria Drugs during normal store hours (Tuesday through Friday) and ask for assistance at the cashier counter. Before you come to the store:

  • The DEA will not allow us to dispose of controlled medications - please do not include these items in your visit (ex: oxycodone, hydrocodone, alprazolam, etc ... ).
  • Leave all products in original bottles (even if from another pharmacy).
  • For your privacy, please mark out patient's name and other personal information.
  • Do not mark out drug information (drug name, strength, etc ... ). We will need this for return form.
  • Put all bottles in a clear zip-lock bag.
  • Liquids should be 4oz or less and sealed in a plastic baggie.
  • When you arrive at our store we will review your items and place in our disposal bin.
We Can Accept
  • prescription medications (except controlled meds)
  • medication samples
  • over-the-counter medications
  • pet medications
  • medicated ointments, lotions, creams, oils
  • inhalers
  • liquids in 4oz bottle (or smaller) and in sealed bag
  • suppositories
  • vitamins and supplements
We CANNOT Accept:

  • controlled medications
  • sharps (needles, syringes, etc ...)
  • thermometers
  • biomedical waste
  • personal care products (shampoo, toothpaste, etc ...)
  • empty containers
  • hydrogen peroxide
  • pharmaceutical waste not generated by households (clinics, pharmacies, hospitals, etc ...)
  • vaccines

Thank you for participating in our free Waste-to-Energy Disposal Program! We are proud to offer this service to assist and protect our community. Through our combined efforts we will make our community a safer place for our families while protecting our environment. Thank you for supporting locally-owned businesses!

Influenza

Most seasonal flu activity typically occurs between October and May. Flu activity most commonly peaks in the United States between December and February or early March.

Majoria Drugs recommends that all our patients receive annual flu shots (brand name: Fluzone) starting in September or October. "Fluzone High-Dose" is a new influenza vaccine created specifically for seniors, 65 and older. If you have questions about which Flu Shot is best for you, please ask our pharmacists.

Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis(whooping cough)

“Tdap” is a combination vaccine (brand name: Boostrix) that protects against three potentially life-threatening bacterial diseases: tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough). Note that “Td” is a booster vaccine for tetanus and diphtheria. It does not protect against pertussis.

Pneumococcal Disease

Pneumococcus can cause many types of illnesses, including ear infections and meningitis. There are vaccines to prevent pneumococcal disease in children and adults. Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13 – brand name: Prevnar 13) is recommended for all children younger than 5 years old, all adults 65 years or older, and people 6 years or older with certain risk factors (ask a pharmacist about these). Pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPSV23 – brand name: Pneumovax 23) is recommended for all adults 65 years or older. People 2 through 64 years old who are at high risk of pneumococcal disease should also receive PPSV23.

Shingles

Your risk of shingles and post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN) increases as you get older. CDC recommends that people 60 years old and older get shingles vaccine (brand names: Shingrix or Zostavax) to prevent shingles and PHN.

Hepatitis B

Hepatitis B is a liver infection caused by the Hepatitis B virus (HBV). For some people, hepatitis B is an acute, or short-term, illness but for others, it can become a long-term, chronic infection. Risk for chronic infection is related to age at infection: approximately 90% of infected infants become chronically infected, compared with 2%–6% of adults. Chronic Hepatitis B can lead to serious health issues, like cirrhosis or liver cancer. The best way to prevent Hepatitis B is by getting vaccinated (brandname: Engerix-B 20Mcg)

Our History

Founded on July 1st, 1968 by Anthony Majoria, Majoria Drugs was steered from the beginning by a credo that today seems almost cliche - deeply discounted prices with fast, efficient and friendly service. The goal was simple- and effective - to try to earn and keep the lifetime loyalty and satisfaction of every customer that walked through the door.

Now, decades later, the landscape of pharmacy has changed more dramatically than anyone could ever have imagined. Chain-drugstores, mail-order pharmacies, and similar trends have nudged many corner-drugstores out of existence... and with them, that cherished experience of dealing with people who knew you by name and took the time to tell you hello... people that appreciated your business, and welcomed the opportunity to tell you so. Happily, this philosophy is alive and well at Majoria Drugs. The current owners, Rhett Majoria, Steve Sandoz and Reagan Majoria, are dedicated to making sure your shopping experience at Majoria Drugs is a positive one. We work very hard to provide fast and efficient service - we know your time is important!

We have always been - and still are - THE discount price leader, providing exceptionally low prices on all medications and health supplies. And on top of all this, we really do appreciate your patronage. We know that you have many other choices in pharmacies, and are humbled by your loyalty. You‘re not just a number to us!
